Groups & Ministries

God tells us in Genesis 2:18 that “it is not good to be alone”. It is with others that we grow, love, serve, heal and develop our relationship with Christ. Connecting with others is the heart of our church.

Pre-Marriage Class

Many couples never lear

n what makes a marriage successful before they get married. That’s why the Urban Refuge offers a pre-marriage class. (We also recommend this class to any couple married for 5 years or less that has had little or no pre-marriage training.)

The format for each meeting includes a message (often taught by a husband/wife team) followed by smaller group discussions. Weekly projects are assigned for the couples to complete outside of the class. Attendance at this class is required for couples who desire to get married by a Rock, Urban Refuge or Evergreen pastor or who desire to use the church facility for their wedding and/or wedding reception. This class is held as needed. Contact one of the pastors if you would like to take this class.

Coaching and Counseling

Coaching is about challenging people to move proactively toward a clarified vision that results from directive exploration.  It's about growth; it's not about healing.  Biblical Counseling is the process where the Bible, God's Word, is related individually to people who are struggling under the weight of personal sin or the difficulties with suffering.  It's about bringing a level of healing into a person's life.  If you would like to schedule an appointment with Reverend Terrance Rollerson click here.  If you have questions, contact Terrance Rollerson.

UR Threads

For Young Singles and Young Couples

Sometimes churches can feel “family-centric,” which can make it difficult for singles and married couples without kids to find that connection with others. The Urban Refuge saw a need within this unique group and formed UR Threads, which is designed to give young adults a place to grow and connect together.

Through social events, service projects, spiritual discussions and worship, the group strives to live out Urban Refuge’s vision of doing justice, loving mercy and walking humbly with God. Check the announcements for news about current UR Threads' events.

Women

The Urban Refuge's Women’s Ministry exists to help women fulfill their potential in Christ. The Women’s Ministry sponsors events where women can interact with each other, grow in their faith and have fun. Check the announcements for news about current Women's Ministry events.

Men

There is a tendency in our society for men to isolate themselves and become “rugged individualists.” At The Urban Refuge we believe that men need to establish strong, godly relationships with other men. Our Men’s Ministry provides guidance and support to help men grow spiritually and make a difference in our world.  Check the announcements for news about current Men's Ministry events.

Children

the shalom of kids!

We aim to include children as part of the whole by having families worship together at the start of our service while recognizing their need to learn about God at a level they can digest and allowing them to be kids during the message portion of the service. Ultimately, our hope is that our church will be a place that builds shalom within your family.

Children's Programs

Nursery Care - infant - 2 years

While parents attend services, the Urban Refuge nursery provides quality childcare for children under the age of five. We strive to provide a safe, nurturing place for your children so you can enjoy our service, free from worry or interruption.

Our fireside room, right outside the sanctuary is available for nursery-aged, discontent children. This room is equipped with a video screen and audio so you can view the service in progress. We encourage parents to use this room when necessary so the service will not be disturbed by upset children.

discovery - 3 & 4 years

Children will discover God and His love for them as they join our journey through timeless Bible stories, fun crafts and the joy of music. Due to the structured nature of this class, children should be potty-trained, able to sit for 15 minutes and follow directions.

promiseland - k thru 5th grade

Our “Promiseland” program is designed for kids from Kindergarten through 5th grade. We have three classes for them, K-1st, 2nd-3rd, and 4th-5th grades.

After checking kids in prior to the service, they remain with their parents for the first two worship songs of the service. They are then released by the worship leader to their teachers in the Sanctuary, who will then escort them downstairs to their class.

All of the kids, K thru 5th grade, meet together in the Activity Room for the first portion of their class. They will participate in an interactive group teaching which may include dramas, PowerPoint, or video presentations. The kids are then escorted to their class-specific room for a smaller group discussion, along with creative arts and activities that make the time meaningful and enjoyable for your kids. Upon completion of the service, parents are to pick up their children at the appropriate classroom.

TEENS

Students ages 11 through 12th grade are welcome to join us on Wednesdays at 6:30 PM for fun, fellowship, and (most importantly) knowing God more deeply and personally.

Junior High Youth Group

Our mission is to partner with parents to equip and inspire their students ages 11 through 8th grade to know the reality of God, the truth of the Bible, and their identity in Christ. We do this through worship, Bible teaching, small groups, service, and fun activities. By these things we support the church’s core value of Raising Godly Families and its vision of “with and for future generations.” Parental involvement is welcomed and encouraged.

Senior High Youth Group

We provide a parent-led youth ministry for our church high school youth ages 14-18. We strive to train up our future generation to be compassionate, have grace, be committed to God and His Word. We do this by creating opportunities for youth to be discipled and to live Godly lives and to be ministers to reach our community and the nations with the Gospel.
