Absolutely! Whether you're a young or veteran adult, a people-person or a behind-the-scenes type, an experienced missionary or a beginner with a heart to serve, there's something for everyone on this trip. We will train you each step of the way! Don't miss this opportunity to get involved, grow in your faith and represent God's unconditional love.
Set in a variety of areas in the city, we sponsor and execute an array of community based service and kindness projects designed to demonstrate the love of God in a practical way, break down negative stereotypes about church and engage people in conversations about Christ.
Activities include providing free activities for children, hosting neighborhood carnivals and picnics, tutoring immigrants, assisting the elderly, packing meals for hungry children, giving away water and food in the parks and encouraging those who are recovering from substance abuse. Believing we can do more together than alone, we partner with many other service organizations committed to meeting needs in the city.
The trips usually begin on Friday evenings and end the following Sunday about noon. For 2010, our trip will be Friday, July 23rd to Sunday, August 1st. We are also offering a Half-MTTC from Wednesday, July 28th till Sunday, August 1st. Both trips will allow you to participate in our annual Kids Against Hunger 100,000 Meal Packathon on Saturday, August 1st. Week long participants will also assist organizations such as World Relief, Teen Challenge, Boys & Girls Club, a community carnival, and participate in a spiritual tour of the city.
Our week long MTTC is $275 per person. Additional family members are $175. The half-week MTTC is $150 per person, with additional family members being $100. The $50 application fee counts toward your total registration fee. All payments are tax deductible, so you can also raise funds for your trip.
Generally, the mission trips are a blend of local and out-of-town participants. We have hosted some smaller groups in homes, but are encouraging most people from out of town to stay onsite at The Urban Refuge and sleep on the floor (air mattresses recommended). We have found this option to be the easiest for daily logistics and meals, while providing the most opportunity for unity and community amongst the teams.
Persons 13 and over are welcome to participate in the trip. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or a sponsoring adult or be under the supervision of a ministry leader.
